E-film is the latest step in AMI’s advancing technology. While many business vendors promote the value of electronic imaging by the cost savings of film, processors, chemicals, maintenance and film storage, the true value lies in the advantages for the patient and the referring physician.

Our immediate past president once stated that before any new investment was made, it must meet at least 2 of 3 criteria: improve patient care, improve efficiency of workflow, or increase volume. The e-film does all three.

Our patients receive improved care because our multi-specialty radiologists can consult with each other.

Our referring physicians can receive their studies on disk and are able to display the images on monitors. Each disk that is sent out is labeled with the hardware and software requirements needed to open the disk. This allows the physician to discuss the images with the patient and store the study economically.

One other advantage is in the O.R., when the surgeon is able to view images quickly during surgery. This is much easier than stopping to go look at the films on the viewbox.

We also improve efficiency by balancing the studies between the radiologists regardless of which center the study was performed. And we create capacity for volume when we are more efficient.
