CT: Computed Tomography
Imaging
Computed Tomography (CT), uses special x-ray technology to obtain
images from different angles around the body, and through computer
processing of the information, creates cross-section views of the body.
CT imaging can be used to image almost any part of the body, including
lung, bone, soft tissue and blood vessels.
The
technology of CT scanning changes as rapidly as our equipment captures
images. Spiral (or helical) CT technology uses a fast scanning process
to obtain large amounts of information. For example, a complete lung
scan can be obtained in as little as a single breath-hold.
The speed of
our spiral and multi-detector scanners is probably the single most
desirable benefit from the patient's perspective, as it makes the
patient visit more comfortable and less time consuming, allowing time
for more enjoyable activities.
CT examinations often require the use of contrast
materials to enhance or characterize certain tissues or blood vessels.
At Advanced Medical Imaging, we use a non-iodine contrast agent to
reduce the risk of allergic reaction. We are very conscientious in
taking steps to assure the contrast is safe for the patients.
