Fluoroscopy Preparations

NOTE: Pediatric Patients: Upon scheduling we will give preparation instructions.

 

The following procedures require  Dietary Instruction prior to the exam:

Esophagus Only

Barium Swallow

Modified Barium Swallow

Upper GI (Including Esophagus)                

Small Bowel

 

Dietary Instruction:

The above  exams  require the patient to  remain NPO (nothing to eat or drink) after midnight the day before your exam.

 

THE FOLLOWING PROCEDURES REQUIRE  DIETARY INSTRUCTION AND MEDICATION CHANGES PRIOR TO THE EXAM:

IV Pyelogram (Also known as an IVP).

 

Dietary Instruction:

The above  exams  require the patient to  remain NPO (nothing to eat or drink) for four (4) hours prior to the appointment time.

 

Diabetic Patients: 

Please inform us if you are diabetic at the time of scheduling.

 

If you are on any metformin product, such as but not limited to Glucovance, Glucophage, Metaglip Metformin/Glipizide or Avandamet, please inform your physician and your radiology scheduler. If you will be receiving an injection of contrast material, you must not take any metformin product the day of the procedure and withhold for forty-eight (48) hours after the procedure. The metformin product should not be resumed again until after renal function has been reevaluated and found to be normal by the referring physician. This applies to all ages. Please confirm with your physician before discontinuing any medications.

 

 

THE FOLLOWING PROCEDURE REQUIRES THE PATIENT TO PICK UP A SPECIAL PREPARATION 2 DAYS PRIOR TO EXAM.   We will provide this prep to you at no charge. You may pick this up at any of our locations.
