In June, 1962 five physicians made a decision that
would change the landscape of San Antonio medicine.
Recognizing a need for their expertise with X-ray,
ultrasound and a host of medical scanning techniques still being developed,
they formed what is believed to be the first professional association of
radiologists in San Antonio.
The group, Radiology Associates of San Antonio,
P.A. (RASAPA), would undergo dramatic changes in the decades to come, while
making history in the healthcare profession.
In the next 45 years, the group would:
* Pioneer outpatient imaging services, currently
operating nine imaging centers in and around San Antonio.
* Introduce new technologies to the city that
greatly benefit physicians and their patients.
* Set the standard for rapid report turnaround,
creating a staff of couriers to personally deliver medical reports to referring physicians’ offices.
* Grow to its current level of 250 employees,
including a prestigious roster of physician-owners with important leadership roles in the
community.
Today, the group is better known by the name it has put
on its ten clinics - Advanced Medical Imaging, or AMI.
Employees and patients notice the family friendly
atmosphere, one that makes people comfortable as soon as they walk through
the doors of any of the clinics.
